SKS Consulting Launches New Philanthropy Program

It’s official! SKS Consulting is proud to announce the launch of its new philanthropy program. Inspired by the Salesforce “Pledge 1%” model, SKS Consulting is committing to donate at least 1% of employee time to volunteering and at least 1% of net profits to local nonprofits in the communities where it does business.

As Founder and Principal of SKS Consulting, I’m so proud. I’ve spent my career working for, volunteering for, and eventually consulting to, nonprofits. Why? Because they fill an important role in our society. For example, the purposes of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit are:

“charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering national or international amateur sports competition, and preventing cruelty to children or animals. The term charitable is used in its generally accepted legal sense and includes relief of the poor, the distressed, or the underprivileged; advancement of religion; advancement of education or science; erecting or maintaining public buildings, monuments, or works; lessening the burdens of government; lessening neighborhood tensions; eliminating prejudice and discrimination; defending human and civil rights secured by law; and combating community deterioration and juvenile delinquency.” (www.irs.gov)

I prefer to sum that up as “they are organizations that do good so we can all lead better lives.”

My goal as a consultant is to help nonprofits and public sector agencies to be successful in delivering their mission and services to clients and community. To help them overcome barriers or take advantage of opportunities to do more good in the world.

It’s fulfilling work, yet something was missing. As a small business owner, I realized that I had the responsibility and the power to do more good. The launch of this social impact program is a pledge. It is also a reflection of the founding principle behind SKS Consulting: Do good by helping others to do more good, so we can all lead better lives.
